May 19, 2010
CBC (China Broadcasting Corporation), China's state-owned operator of mobile TV based on China's indigenous mobile technology called CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting), revealed its five-year plan, under which the company is projected to complete pan-China CMMB network coverage, including all prefecture-level and above cities, 393 county-level cities, over 1,000 counties, and main highways, within next five years, the Sohu IT News reported on May 14. In addition, CBC stated that the company will earmark an investment amount for CMMB network construction in 2010, equivalent to the total amount of investment made by CBC for CMMB in the past years, according to the same source.

The five-year plan will be divided into three phases. In phase one, CBC plans to achieve seamless CMMB network coverage in 100 major cities in China by May 31, 2010. Phase two involves the expansion of CMMB network coverage to 337 prefecture-level cities, while totaling the number of major Chinese cities with seamless CMMB network coverage to 180 cities. In the phase three, CBC expects the number of cities to total 225 by year-end 2010. Further details regarding the value of the investment allocated by CBC for 2010, however, were not yet disclosed
